Some Of It

I love lilies! These pink ones are my favorites.

September 16th is one of the most important days to celebrate in Mexico, it is Mexican Independence Day!
On that day the Mexican president comes to The Zocalo, the main plaza, at Mexico City. There he rings the same bell that was rung the day Mexico became free, and gives El Grito, the cry for Independence. The ceremony reaches the high point when the crowd joins in by proudly shouting out the names of the heroes of Mexico's Independence, to end with the exciting VIVA MEXICO!! Here is a video of it.

Some years ago the Nintendo DSi used to be the bomb.com for my kids and their friends.
I remember the struggle my friend and I had to make the kids put them down the day I took the picture below. Funny! Because now my kids DSi's are somewhere in the bottom of that odds and ends box!

When I was searching for a recipe for lentil soup, I found one that called for potatoes.
Potatoes?! I wondered, I told myself that potatoes in my lentil soup was not going to taste good at all,
and cooked the soup without potatoes. At the end, I put too much salt in the soup! I quickly peeled some potatoes and added them to my soup. Lentil soup with potatoes tastes good!

Mermaid at Norfolk Botanical Garden

Today mermaids can be found throughout Norfolk downtown and it's neighborhoods.
They were introduced by attorney Peter Decker in November 1999. The idea came from his
wife who was inspired from Chicago city's Cows on Parade. At that time sculptor
Kevin Gallup mass-produced 130 mermaids and sold them for $2000.

But if you ask me, "Why are there mermaids all over Norfolk, Virginia?" My answer would be:
"To validate the made up stories of sea creatures that Navy sailors come back with".

Joslyn Art Museum - Jun Kaneko
When it comes to art I try to appreciate and understand what an artist is expressing on a piece,
but when I see this sculpture I can't stop wondering if this artist does hypnotism as a side job.

This is my son's first year in High School! Among the cool things he likes to do he also loves music,
and plays for the school's band. He is very excited to start playing with other musicians of his
new school. But not without telling me how much he misses his friends in the above picture
from the Junior High he used to go last year at Nebraska.

Royal Walnut Moth, Citheronia regalis, AKA Hickory Horned Devil

You really have to love bugs to say the above caterpillar is cute, pretty, or anything like that.
Okay, I think it's cute and unique :) but the kid that was besides me kept saying it
looks like an ugly dragon, I just don't understand! :)

On Labor Day,  a day to rest and sleep in, we had to get up early for my daughter's first soccer
practice of the season. It's not normal for soccer shoes to be clean, her new soccer shoes were so
squeaky clean, that the cat felt the need to start grooming himself to keep up with the cleanness!

First Day of School

By now my see-through fence has turned into a privacy fence... with much help of the morning glory.

My Morning glory has been blooming for a couple of days now, but I didn't see the flowers before,
because they are burned by the hot sun by the time I get up out of bed and go outside.

It has now become a sort of tradition that the day I get up early for kid's first day of school, I realize the
morning glory is blooming. And immediately after I am done taking the kid's first day of school pictures, I turn around and start taking  pictures of morning glory flowers, before the sun gets hot and scorches them.

Seeing morning glory flowers reminds me of the First Day of School.

Hairstreak Butterfly

I finally got some halfway decent pictures of this little beauty!

I've been admiring the pictures of other bloggers and instagramers and didn't know
I could find this butterfly in my area too. Until I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw it in my
back yard! But that day was very disappointing, I just couldn't  get any good picture of  the little thing.

I got so happy when I reached out my finger and it got in it!!

Love it's black and white antennas!

Blue Splash

Happy Monday!
Here is the view of a Spicebush Swallowtail butterfly giving my ordinary lantana a little splash of blue.

Spicebush Swallotail

Can't believe, this is September already!
In a couple of weeks I should be sharing fall pictures. I need to hurry up with
the sharing of the tons of summer pictures before they're out of season!
